How to use the image resizer

  1. 1Choose an image.
  2. 2Pick how to resize it: exact pixels, a percentage, or a preset size.
  3. 3If the new shape differs from the original, choose Crop to fill, Fit inside or Stretch.
  4. 4Pick the file format and quality.
  5. 5Check the preview and press Download.

Three ways to resize

  • Pixels sets an exact width and height. Keep aspect ratio on and changing one side updates the other, so the image is never squashed.
  • Percent scales the whole image, for example to 50% for a quick, smaller copy.
  • Presets use common sizes for social posts, stories, video thumbnails, link previews and banners.

When the shape changes

If the target size has a different shape from your image, choose how to handle it:

  • Crop to fill scales the image to cover the whole area and trims the edges. Best for social posts and thumbnails.
  • Fit inside shows the whole image with white bars where it does not fill the space.
  • Stretch forces the image to the new size, which can distort it.

Quality

Large reductions are done in several halving steps, which keeps fine detail sharp rather than jagged. Enlarging an image cannot add real detail, so it will look softer the more you scale it up.

Privacy

Resizing happens in your browser. Your images are not uploaded, and resized copies do not keep location metadata.

Frequently asked questions

Will resizing reduce image quality?

Making an image smaller keeps it sharp. Making it larger cannot add detail, so enlarged images look softer.

How do I resize without stretching?

Keep "Keep aspect ratio" on, or choose Crop to fill or Fit inside when using a preset with a different shape.

What size should a social media image be?

Common sizes are 1080×1080 for square posts, 1080×1350 for portrait posts, 1080×1920 for stories and 1200×630 for link previews. They are all in the presets.

Is my image uploaded?

No. All resizing happens on your device.
