How to build vocabulary that sticks
Learning a word once is rarely enough. Seeing it again a few days later, and actively recalling its meaning rather than just reading it, is what moves it into long-term memory. Short quizzes are an easy way to do that.
The levels
- Everyday: common words that strengthen reading and writing for all ages
- Intermediate: words often met in news, school essays and work writing
- Advanced: precise words common in literature, exams and academic writing
Tips
- Say the word aloud after listening to it.
- Write your own sentence using each new word.
- Try both quiz directions. Recognizing a meaning is easier than recalling the word, so Meaning → word is the tougher test.
The speaker uses your device's built-in voice, so pronunciation can vary slightly between devices.
Frequently asked questions
How many words are included?
About 30 words at each level, and new words are added over time.
Can I use this to prepare for exams?
Yes. The Advanced level includes words often seen in reading and verbal reasoning sections.
Does it work offline?
Once the page has loaded, the quiz and word list work without a connection. Pronunciation depends on your device's voices.
