  3. 3Tap the weekdays you work, and choose a country to skip its public holidays. Add company holidays under Custom holidays.

  5. 5Enter your hourly or daily rate to see what you have earned so far and what is still to come.

How business days are counted

A business day is any day you normally work that is not a public holiday. By default that means Monday to Friday, but you can switch any weekday on or off, which helps with six-day weeks, four-day weeks or shift patterns.

Both the start and end dates are counted unless you untick Include the end date. Counting from Monday to Friday of the same week therefore gives 5 business days.

Public holidays

Holidays for the United States, the United Kingdom (England and Wales), Canada and Australia are calculated from the official rules, including days that move when a holiday falls on a weekend. Only national or federal holidays are included. State, provincial and one-off holidays vary, so add them under Custom holidays, along with company shutdown days or holidays for any other country.

Days off and pay

Clicking a workday on the calendar marks it as a day off, such as annual leave or sick leave, and removes it from the count. The pay panel then multiplies the remaining workdays by your hourly rate and hours per day, or by your daily rate.

Workdays up to the Progress as of date are shown as completed, so you can see at a glance how much of a contract, pay period or project you have finished and how much you are still due. Pay figures are gross amounts before tax. Whether holidays, leave and overtime are paid depends on your contract.

Adding business days

Use Add or subtract days to find a date a set number of working days away, for example a delivery promise of 10 business days or a notice period. The calculator steps through the calendar one day at a time, skipping weekends, holidays and any days off you have marked.

Frequently asked questions

How many business days are there in a year?

A year has 260 to 262 weekdays, depending on the year and how the calendar falls. Taking out public holidays usually leaves around 250. Pick a whole year and your country to see the exact number.

Does the calculator count the start and end dates?

Yes, both are counted by default. Untick "Include the end date" if you need the number of business days strictly between the two dates.

My country is not in the holiday list. What can I do?

Choose "No public holidays" and add your holidays under Custom holidays. They are skipped exactly like built-in holidays.

How is pay worked out?

Business days are multiplied by your daily rate, or by your hourly rate and hours per day. Days you mark as off are left out, and overtime is added at the multiplier you choose. The result is gross pay before tax.
