How fancy text works
These styles are not fonts. They are special characters from the Unicode standard that happen to look like styled letters. Unicode includes sets of bold, italic, script, double-struck and other letter forms originally intended for mathematics, plus circled, squared and full-width characters.
Because they are characters rather than formatting, you can paste them into places that do not allow formatting, such as social media bios, usernames and chat messages.
Where it works and where it does not
Most modern phones and browsers display these characters. A few apps and older devices show empty boxes instead, and some sites block unusual characters in usernames.
Accessibility
Screen readers may read styled characters letter by letter, or skip them entirely. Use fancy text for short decorative touches, not for important information, and keep key details such as names and links in normal text.
Search
Search engines and in-app search usually treat styled characters as different letters, so text written this way may not show up when people search for the plain word.
Frequently asked questions
Will fancy text work on social media?
In most places, yes. Bios, posts and comments on major platforms accept Unicode characters. A few fields, such as some usernames, may reject them.
Why do some styles show boxes instead of letters?
The device or app is missing a font that includes those characters. Try a different style, or check on another device.
Are these real fonts?
No. They are Unicode characters that look styled. That is why they can be copied and pasted anywhere text is accepted.
Are numbers and symbols converted?
Some styles include their own numbers, such as bold, double-struck and circled. Other characters are left as they are.
